Being the largest PC manufacturer may not be enough for HP but rumors and the following announcement that they were placing their PC Manufacturing Unit up for sale was totally insane. They say it is to refocus their brand to take on the maturity of competitors like IBM who have long left manufacturing and focused more on software and support.
This comes as a shock to most in the PC industry but in today’s tumultuous economic conditions, it may simply be a way of taking out some of the risk they are for the PC industry is quite influenced a lot by economics.

MSi, one of the players in the mobile computing market has announced their release of their Intel Core i7 quad core based-laptops. The X460 comes with a Core i5 dual core processor and a dedicated Nvidia GT 540M Graphics card with the later packing the Core i7 quad-core processor with the integrated Intel graphics card.
Additional features are wireless display technology for use with digital TV’s, HDMI port, Support for USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 3.0. The ability to support internet enabled digital TV’s is allowing portable connections between computers and consumer electronics allowing ease of use without the cryptic and often expensive wires needed to make them work.

Tablets eating into netbook sales

With tablets getting more and more popular, netbooks are beginning to feel the jitters. There are studies that tablets are beginning to eat into the market share of netbooks.
But as a person who just recently bought a netbook, I think netbooks don’t have anything to worry about. There are still a number of things that tablets don’t do as well as netbooks and it may take a number of iterations before tablets develop the necessary technologies or features that will be enough to replace netbooks. Just ask any writer who writes tons of articles. A netbook’s keyboard is still a huge benefit to them compared to the virtual keyboards of tablets.

Space is the major factor for their focus on their product line and with the new and improved E-450 series of APU’s it is now capable of supporting DDR3 1333 memory bandwidth, HDMI 1.4a connection for 3D video and stills display on enabled devices.

Toshiba has been long known as a good manufacturer of reliable laptops and it is surely not stopping. To date, Toshiba has released new Satellite and Satellite Pro laptops whose specs have yet to be revealed.

The only thing that can be said right now is the glossy black finish which combines stylish slim-line chassis design with desirable features.

The range offers a textured palm rest, touchpad with metallic mouse buttons and a quick launch multimedia bar, with touch-sensitive buttons and LED lighting.

Additionally, it will have the usual Intel and AMD chips along with some graphic card visualization to adhere towards the demands of most techy freaks today.

Dell Laptops Now Available in Best Buy Stores

Earlier in the month Dell and Best Buy announced Inspiron and XPS laptops would be available for sale in Best Buy retail stores nationwide in the U.S. They missed the holiday sale season, but the Dell machines are now on the shelves.

The XPS M1330 with white alpine lid is available at BestBuy.com at the moment and is priced at $1,249.99 with the following configuration:

Intel T5450 1.66GHz processor
Intel X3100 graphics
13.3″ WXGA screen with 2.0MP web camera
2GB RAM
Dell 1390 wireless
DVD�RW/CD-RW optical drive
160GB 5400RPM hard drive
6-cell battery

When you configure the same specs on Dell.com right now this laptop costs $1,279, so the BestBuy deal is actually slightly better. The problem is of course you can’t custom configure the XPS M1330 at Best Buy like you can via Dell.com.

Also available on BestBuy.com is the Inspiron 1420 for $999 with the following configuration:

For the small business on a limited budget, the Compaq 6715b is worth looking at, as it offers a good set of features including some serious security. It all comes for a decent price, although weighing as much as it does, it may be limited in its on-the-road appeal.
